Sherlock Holmes is probably the best-known fictional detective of all time. This popular character was created by the British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887, but his stories are still loved today. Sherlock is admired all over the world because he is a highly skilled detective, and he is naturally gifted at solving mysteries and crimes. He pays close attention to small things that most people don’t notice and then he uses his excellent powers of logical deduction to arrive at correct conclusions. He doesn’t work for the police, but the London police, Scotland Yard, often ask him for help to solve cases. He is bright at finding clues, putting them together, and figuring out who did what. When he explains how he figured things out, he likes to say, “Elementary, my dear Watson”.
Dr Watson is Sherlock’s good friend who assists him in
solving crimes. He shares an apartment with Sherlock at 221B Baker Street. He
is also the narrator of Sherlock Holmes stories.
Professor Moriarty is another iconic character in the Sherlock Holmes Stories. He is the ruthless leader of a network of criminals. While Sherlock uses his intelligence to solve crimes and catch criminals, Professor Moriarty uses his intelligence to commit crimes and avoid getting caught. Moriarty is the mastermind behind many bad things that happen in the books. He is always trying to outsmart Sherlock Holmes.
Sherlock Holmes’ stories have been adapted and made into many movies and TV shows.
